Cucamonga Peak Prep

Cucamonga Peak


Itinerary:

  1. Transit to Icehouse Canyon Trailhead
    1. Carpool from LLKSDA before 2pm
    2. Get Adventure Pass from National Forest Service
  2. Leave from Icehouse Canyon Trailhead: LINK
  3. Hike to  Kelly Camp: LINK
    1. Set up tents
    2. Secure gear
  4. Sunset at Ontario Peak or Bighorn Peak (optional but recommended)
  5. Back to Kelly Camp
  6. Eat, relax, and sleep
  7. Up early and summit to Cucamonga Peak
  8. Back to camp, head back to parking lot
    1. Estimate 12-15 miles total
    2. Weather: LINK

Essentials:

  1. Water bottle/hydration pack/etc: plan on at least 2-3 liter capacity
    1. Water filter will be available to drink water from natural sources
    2. Water for cooking is up to individuals
  2. Hiking shoes with decent socks
  3. Whatever you want to eat and however you want to cook it
    1. Ramen
    2. Backpackers food
    3. Energy bars
    4. Trail mix
    5. Jerky
  4. Flashlight
  5. Sunglasses/sunblock
  6. Toilet paper
  7. Jacket to keep you comfortable at 30-40F
  8. Trekking poles

Suggestions:

  1. Spare battery for phones
  2. Hat
  3. Pain/sleep medications
  4. Bandaids
  5. Duct tape
